How did Panforte Margherita come to be?
Panforte originated from an ancient Sienese confection known as “panmelato.”
In 1879, a new version was created and dedicated to Queen Margherita of Savoy, who was visiting Siena for the August Palio. Just as in the past, whole almonds, orange peel, and candied melon and citron are combined into a mixture with an authentic and unmistakable flavor.
